Chemical Engineer Consultant

Dr. Fan holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and a MS in Mathematics (both from West Virginia University); a MS in Chemical Engineering (Kansas State University); and a BS in Chemical Engineering (National Taiwan University). He is currently University Distinguished Professor, holds the Mark H. and Margaret H. Hulings Chair in Engineering, and is Director of the Institute for System Design and Optimization, all at Kansas State University.

His fields of research and expertise lie in process systems engineering (process synthesis and design; control; modeling), chemical reaction engineering (reactor analysis; design and development; reactor modeling and control), particulate technology (fluidization; solids mixing), biochemical engineering and biotechnology, environmental engineering, waste recycling and reuse, and energy resources conversion.  In addition to seven books, Dr. Fan has published over 600 refereed journal articles and numerous technical reports; moreover, he holds 14 patents. Many of these are related to his areas of research and expertise. His technical presentations have taken him to various places in the United States, North America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa.

Notable among the numerous awards and honors bestowed on Dr. Fan are the Iinoya Award of the Society of Powder Technology, Japan (1986); an honorary doctorate from the University of Veszprém, Hungary (1990); and an honorary membership in the Society of Chemical Engineers, Japan (1994), the fourth non-Japanese to receive this honor in the Society’s history. Dr. Fan is a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is or has been a co-editor or advisor to several prestigious technical journals including the Journal of Chemical Engineering of Chinese Universities.
